Is there no stopping the Google?

The news keeps getting more dismal for Yahoo and Microsoft. A study by RBC Capital Markets and the agency SearchIgnite of over 500 marketers for the past year and a half showed that Google garnered over 75% of the total (surveyed) PPC spend during Q2, in spite of overall spending on search remaining flat in 2007.

Microsoft had a blip of brighter news earlier this week when their search share increased significantly from May to June… but of course that was due to their “Live Search Club” game where you could search to earn points redeemable for MSFT products. (so… I guess it was kinda artificially inflated.) Then Yahoo’s earnings today were lower than expected.

So Google still dominates, despite Microsoft and Yahoo’s additional efforts to get more revenue per search, & more searchers to their engines (through promotions like Live Search Club and platform changes like Panama). What’s it going to take to unseat them in the world of search-derived revenues & share of search?
