Ebay resumes their AdWords campaign

John Battelle posted the text of an email he received from Ebay, about their resuming their AdWords campaign. (Ebay had paused it about two weeks ago in response to Google’s guerrilla move at the Ebay Live conference.) I agree with the commenters on his post… so did Ebay really need to stop the campaign to figure out whether or not it was effective?

Any marketer who has the proper clickthru & conversion tracking means set up can tell within days (or less if it’s a high volume campaign/site) whether or not a campaign is effective! And I’d think that Ebay, who spends millions and millions of dollars on AdWords each month, would know this…

Guess they’re trying to save face a little bit - “yep, we need google, but we’ll downplay just how much.”
